Kevin Piette, who has been in a wheelchair since a motorcycle accident 11 years ago, recently had the chance to carry the Olympic torch, thanks to a new exoskeleton from Wandercraft SAS. This incredible device helped him walk for the first time as part of the torch relay. Wandercraft, a company based in Paris, is known for its FDA-approved Atalante X exoskeleton. Now, they are fine-tuning another prototype designed to help people with disabilities walk. They have just received a significant boost of €25 million from the European Investment Bank to speed up development and make their technology more accessible. Wandercraft’s CEO, Matthieu Masselin, shared their big goal, making it possible for more people to experience the joy of walking in everyday life. The new exoskeleton isn’t available for purchase yet, but it’s a promising step forward.

TikTok just rolled out a new feature called “Sound Search” that is set to give YouTube Music and Shazam a run for their money. This tool lets you find a song by singing, humming, or playing it, and it’s currently available to some users in selected regions. Here’s how it works, if you hum a tune, Sound Search will not only identify the song but also show you videos where that song is used. For instance, humming Rihanna’s “Umbrella” quickly brought up popular clips featuring the track. But, it might struggle with songs that aren’t as popular or widely used on TikTok. If you have got access to this feature, just tap the microphone icon in the app’s search bar and select “Sound Search.” It’s a handy way to discover songs and trends directly on TikTok.

X (formerly Twitter) has automatically turned on a setting that lets them use your posts to train their new Grok AI. This means they can use your tweets and interactions to make Grok smarter, and they might also share this data with their partner, xAI. The good news is you can opt out if you are not comfortable with this. Just log into X on your desktop, go to “Settings,” then “Privacy and safety,” and click on “Grok.” Uncheck the box to stop sharing your data. You can also delete your chat history with Grok if you want. Elon Musk has been talking about how xAI is using a top-notch AI training system to develop Grok, aiming to make it the best AI by December 2024. If this is something you want to opt out of, make sure to update your settings soon!

OpenAI is jumping into the search engine scene with SearchGPT. This new tool doesn’t just give you a list of links. Instead, it tries to make sense of your search by summarizing the information and showing you relevant details right away. For example, if you look up music festivals, SearchGPT will give you a summary of the events and links to learn more. Right now, it’s only available to 10,000 test users and is powered by the latest GPT-4 model. OpenAI plans to eventually add it to ChatGPT. Unlike some search engines, SearchGPT is working with news organizations to make sure they are properly credited and linked in the results. This new tool is definitely going to shake things up in the search engine industry. It’s free for now, but OpenAI will need to figure out how to make money from it in the future.
