You build on failure. You use it as a steppingstone. Close the door on the past. You don’t try to forget the mistakes, but you don’t dwell on it. You don’t let it have any of your energy, or any of your time, or any of your space.

WhatsApp is testing in-app message translation in latest beta

WhatsApp is stepping up its game by testing a new in-app message translation feature in its latest Android beta version 2.25.12.25. This innovation aims to make cross-language communication seamless for its global user base. The feature allows users to translate chat messages and channel updates directly within the app. Translations are processed locally on the user’s device, ensuring that message data isn’t sent to external servers, thereby maintaining user privacy. To utilize this feature, users need to download specific language packs. Currently, supported languages include Spanish, Arabic, Portuguese (Brazil), Hindi, and Russian. An optional language pack is also available for automatic detection of message language, which is particularly useful in multilingual group chats.

Users can activate the translation feature on a per-chat basis through chat settings, allowing for automatic translation of incoming messages. Alternatively, individual messages can be translated manually by selecting the ‘Translate’ option. While on-device translations may not always match the accuracy of cloud-based services, this method ensures end-to-end encryption is preserved, and user data remains confidential. Users can provide feedback on translations to help improve the feature, but no message content is shared with Meta unless explicitly submitted. The feature is gradually rolling out to beta testers and is expected to become available to all users after the testing phase completes.
