WhatsApp Introduces Note Feature, like Instagram
WhatsApp is bringing back one of its oldest features with a modern makeover. The app is relaunching “About,” a short text status update that works a lot like Instagram Notes.
The feature lets you post quick updates about what you’re doing, share conversation starters, or explain why you might not be available to chat. Think of it as a mini status that sits at the top of your one-on-one chats and on your profile.
WhatsApp says About was actually the app’s very first feature, before it became the secure messaging platform we know today. Back then, WhatsApp was all about letting people share short updates like this. Now it’s back and more visible than before. Your contacts can see your About status at the top of their chats with you, and they can tap on it to reply directly.
By default, your status disappears after 24 hours, just like Instagram Notes, but you can adjust the timer to make it stick around longer or vanish sooner. You also get to choose whether only your contacts can see it or if it’s more public.
Right now, the feature is basic compared to Instagram Notes, which lets you post short videos and even share what music you’re streaming.

For growth marketers in 2026, CTV will remain an important “safe space” as AI creates widespread disruption in the search and social channels. Plus, easier access to self-serve CTV ad buying tools and targeting options will lead to a surge in locally-targeted streaming campaigns.
Read our guide to find out why growth marketers should make sure CTV is part of their 2026 media mix.
