Hello community member,

Is there a better way to welcome the weekend than catching up on all the latest in AI? This week, we’ve got some incredible stories lined up—from an AI that can potentially beat the “Are You A Robot“ challenge to the latest human sounding AI-generated voices.

There’s a lot to dig into, so get comfy, grab your favorite drink, and let’s jump into all the AI goodness this week!

Here's your curated dose of the most significant events in the AI ecosystem this week:

  1. Meet Voice Design by ElevenLabs.

  2. WestWorld coming true? Meet Torso, the Android with artificial muscles.

  3. Claude 3.5 launches with new feature called “Computer Use“.

ElevenLabs recently launched Voice Design, a new tool that creates unique AI voices from just a text description. While text-to-speech technology has become common, Voice Design stands out by allowing users to customize voices by describing traits like age, accent, and tone.

Though ElevenLabs already offers over 3,000 high-quality voices, Voice Design fills the gap when users want something even more specific. The tool is user-friendly and creates personalized voices in seconds, making it a fresh addition to the AI voice market. The company has announced that an API for Voice Design will be available in one week.

Clone has just introduced "Torso," a new android with arms and shoulders that mimic human movement in a strikingly lifelike way—perfectly timed for Halloween! This breakthrough uses artificial muscles to move its shoulders, neck, and arms just like ours, even housing the control system inside its “ribcage,” similar to a real human body.

But this tech isn’t about making robots to replace people. Instead, Clone aims to use these advancements for prosthetics and rehabilitation, showing real promise for helping people in new ways.

A unique feature, called "computer use" has been released by Anthropic AI with the introduction of Claude 3.5 Sonnet and Claude 3.5 Haiku and is available for public testing. This feature allows Claude to interact with a computer screen like a person—moving a cursor, clicking buttons, and typing text. This capability, still in early development, shows promise but may sometimes make mistakes.

Several companies, including Asana, Canva, and DoorDash, are already exploring how to use this feature for complex tasks and project testing. By building general computer skills, this AI could help automate repetitive tasks and assist in software development.

Claude’s new ability to work on computer screens has outperformed previous models, showing significant progress in early trials. However, developers are encouraged to start with smaller projects due to the experimental nature of this feature. The creators are committed to improving safety and ensuring that this AI can be used responsibly.

This marks an exciting step in AI technology, as developers continue to test and improve Claude's computer skills for broader use in the future.
