Usually, I’d ask how your week went, but this was the week of London Tech Week, Apple’s WWDC 2025, and a Google Cloud outage that took down nearly 80% of the internet. So yes, we already know how the week went.

Let’s talk Apple. Every year, Apple introduces new updates to iOS, usually filled with features that feel more hype than helpful. And honestly, that has made the excitement around these yearly upgrades drop a bit.

This year, Apple introduced a new Liquid Glass look, which makes your iPhone’s home screen look semi-transparent. No comment from us on that one, but a quick search on X (formerly Twitter) will tell you everything you need to know about how users are reacting.

Let us know what you think of this year’s Apple WWDC. And while you're at it, catch up on everything else that happened this week.

Here's your curated dose of the most significant events in the AI ecosystem this week

  1. Google tests Audio Overviews for Search queries

  2. Google Cloud Glitches causes internet meltdown

  3. Snapchat introduces new features for creators

  4. All of the new features coming to Apple’s iOS apps

Google is now testing a new feature that turns your search into something like a mini podcast. If you're in the U.S. and using Search Labs, you might start seeing a “Generate Audio Overview” button in your results. Tap it, and instead of reading through a wall of links or summaries, you will hear a short audio explanation. basically, Google talking you through the answer in a natural, easy-to-follow voice.

These audio clips usually run between 3 to 5 minutes, and they’re powered by Google's Gemini AI. Right now, it works best for questions like “How do noise-canceling headphones work?” or “Why does the ocean look blue?” It’s designed to give you a quick breakdown while you’re doing other things. The player shows up right in your search results and lets you pause, skip ahead, or change the speed. You’ll also see links to the sources used, in case you want to read more. And if you think the answer is helpful (or not), you can give it a thumbs up or down to help Google improve.

This isn’t the first time Google has experimented with audio, similar tech showed up in tools like NotebookLM and Gemini chat. But this is the first time they’re bringing it directly into Search for the public to try. That said, not everyone is happy about this development. Some news outlets are worried this could mean fewer clicks to their websites, especially if users get all the info they need from the audio summary.

On Thursday, June 12, a major outage at Google Cloud caused tons of popular websites and apps to go down. Around 11:45 a.m. PT, Google Cloud started having issues. Not long after, platforms like Spotify, Snapchat, Discord, Twitch, and even some parts of Google (like Gmail and Meet) started glitching or stopped working altogether. People flooded sites like Downdetector with complaints, Spotify alone had over 40,000 outage reports. Some services were completely offline, while others worked but had major delays.

The problem was traced back to Google’s cloud infrastructure, the system many companies use to keep their apps and websites running. So when Google Cloud ran into trouble, it caused a domino effect across the internet. By around 2:15 p.m., Google said they had found the problem and were working on fixes. Cloudflare, which also had issues since some of their services rely on Google Cloud, reassured users that their main systems were fine.

A few hours later, most things were back to normal. Google said the fixes were in place and services were recovering. All of this shows just how connected the internet really is. When one major cloud provider hits a bump, it doesn’t just affect them, it takes a big chunk of the web down with it.

If you make content on Snapchat, it just got way easier. They have added a new video editing tool called the Timeline Editor, which lets you cut, trim, and rearrange your clips right inside the app, kind of like what you'd do in a video editing app, but now built into Snapchat itself. It’s available in the U.S. for now. There’s also a new way to quickly make videos from your saved Snaps. Just pick a few photos or clips from your Memories, pick a song and a style, and Snapchat will automatically turn it into a nice highlight reel. This feature is already live worldwide on iPhones.

Another update is your public Stories can now stay up for good. Before, they disappeared after 24 hours. But now, you can choose to keep them on your profile so more people can find and watch them later.

And if you're into checking your numbers, Snapchat’s also made it easier to track how your content is doing. You can now see things like how many people watched your Stories, how long they watched for, and even where your views came from; like from your profile or the Spotlight tab.

At Apple’s big WWDC event, they showed off the next iOS update, and it’s packed with new features that make everyday stuff easier, faster, and more fun. Apple’s calling the new design “Liquid Glass.” It gives your phone a see-through look that feels smoother and more modern. It’s getting released on iPhones, iPads, Macs, and even CarPlay.

Also, you will be able to put a robot on hold for you during calls, so you don’t have to listen to that elevator music anymore. Another feature lets your phone answer unknown numbers, ask who’s calling, and then show you a transcript so you can decide if it’s worth picking up. There’s also live translation built into calls and messages, so you can talk to someone in a different language and still understand each other.

Messages is getting an upgrade too. You can now add polls in group chats, use colorful chat backgrounds, and even see when people in group messages are typing. Plus, Apple Cash is now easier to send in chats, and spam texts from random numbers get pushed out of sight. The Photos app is cleaner and now adds a new effect that makes your pictures pop off the screen. And Apple Maps will start giving you smarter suggestions based on your daily routines.

If you are into music, there’s a new feature that blends your favorite songs with your friends’ to make shared playlists, and lyrics can now be translated in real time. And if you game on your iPhone, there’s a brand-new Apple Games app to keep all your stuff in one place.
