Supabase Hits $5 Billion Valuation from  Rejecting Deals

While “vibe coding” sweeps through the tech world, the companies building the infrastructure behind it are reaping huge rewards. Supabase, an open-source database platform that’s become the go-to backend for this new wave of coding tools, just raised $100 million at a $5 billion valuation. That’s less than four months after closing a $200 million round at $2 billion.

This is what makes CEO Paul Copplestone different; he keeps saying no to lucrative enterprise contracts.

His customers have deep pockets and big demands, but Copplestone is betting that if he stays true to his own product vision, the market will come to him. So far, that gamble is paying off spectacularly.

Copplestone shared some bold predictions in a recent interview. He believes Oracle’s dominance won’t last another generation. Supabase is funding ambitious technical projects to make Postgres (the database technology they build on) even more powerful and scalable.

The hardest part for him was deciding which enterprise deals to reject. Even though he’s confident in his strategy, Copplestone admits turning down those contracts “feels very painful.” It’s a counterintuitive approach in an industry where most companies chase every big customer they can land. But for Supabase, staying focused on their vision instead of catering to demanding enterprise clients seems to be the secret sauce driving their explosive growth.
