Hi there. Again its your newspaper carrier delivering the weekly round down of Tech news in your inbox. Here's your curated dose of the most significant events in the AI ecosystem this week
xAI launches Grok 4
Perplexity launches Comet, an AI Powered web browser
Samsung is exploring new wearable device like earrings and necklaces
Google adds image-to-video generation capability to Veo 3

Elon Musk's xAI has just launched Grok 4, a brand-new AI chatbot that aims to rival the likes of ChatGPT and Google's Gemini. This latest version is designed to tackle complex problems, from advanced math to understanding images, and even making predictions.
Grok 4 has made waves in AI performance tests. In a general knowledge test called Humanity’s Last Exam, Grok 4 scored 25.4% without any external tools, outperforming OpenAI's o3 (high) and Gemini 2.5 Pro, which both scored 21%. When using external tools, Grok 4 Heavy, the advanced version, achieved a 44.4% score, setting a new benchmark in AI performance.
This new version comes with a multi-agent system, allowing multiple instances of Grok to work together on a problem, much like a study group. This boosts its accuracy and reasoning. Subscription plans for Grok are available now. Grok 4 is priced at $30 per month, while Grok 4 Heavy comes in at $300 per month, offering advanced features and tools. The premium plan, SuperGrok Heavy, also priced at $300 per month, gives early access to upcoming features like AI coding tools, a multi-modal agent, and a video generation system.
Grok is set to be integrated into Tesla vehicles as early as next week. This integration promises to enhance voice commands and personalization features within the cars. Despite its advancements, Grok has faced some criticism for generating antisemitic content, including praise for Adolf Hitler. xAI has acknowledged these issues and is working on improving its content moderation and safety features.
Grok 4 is now available through xAI’s website and can also be accessed via the X app. For developers, Grok 4 and Grok 4 Heavy are offered through API access, allowing for broader integration into various platforms.
Perplexity, the AI-powered search engine, has just launched Comet, its first AI-driven web browser. This move positions Perplexity to compete directly with giants like Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge. Comet is built on Chromium, the same open-source engine that powers Chrome, ensuring compatibility with existing browser extensions. It introduces a unique sidebar that integrates Perplexity’s AI search capabilities, allowing users to query, summarize, or explore content without switching tabs. This feature aims to streamline the browsing experience by reducing the need for constant tab. The standout feature of Comet is the Comet Assistant, an AI agent embedded within the browser. This assistant can perform tasks such as summarizing emails and calendar events, managing tabs, and navigating web pages on behalf of users. Users can access the Comet Assistant by opening a sidecar on any web page, enabling the AI agent to see the page's content and answer questions about it.
Currently, Comet is available to subscribers of Perplexity’s $200-per-month Max plan and a select group of invitees who signed up for the waitlist. The company plans to expand access to a broader audience in the coming week. Perplexity's CEO, Aravind Srinivas, envisions Comet as more than just a browser; he describes it as a "cognitive operating system" designed to assist users across various apps and websites. The goal is to enable Perplexity’s AI to help users complete tasks more efficiently, potentially leading to "infinite retention" by becoming the default browser for users.
With Comet, Perplexity aims to transform the web browsing experience by integrating AI to perform tasks traditionally done by users, challenging the dominance of established browsers.

Samsung is stepping into new territory with its latest wearable tech ambitions. The company is exploring the development of AI-powered accessories such as earrings, necklaces, and glasses, aiming to integrate technology seamlessly into daily life without the need to carry a phone.
According to Won-joon Choi, COO of Samsung's Mobile Experience division, the goal is to create devices that users can wear naturally, like jewelry or glasses, eliminating the need to carry additional gadgets. These wearables would function as companions to smartphones, enhancing communication and task management through AI integration. This initiative is part of Samsung's broader strategy to expand its wearable lineup beyond traditional smartwatches and fitness rings. Earlier this year, the company announced plans to develop smart glasses in collaboration with Google, and reports indicate ongoing work on an advanced microdisplay for augmented reality (AR) glasses. While specific details about the earrings, necklaces, and other wearable formats are yet to be revealed, Samsung's exploration signifies a move towards more discreet and integrated wearable technology.

Google has introduced an exciting feature in its Gemini app that allows users to transform still images into dynamic 8-second videos with synchronized audio. Powered by the advanced Veo 3 AI model, this tool enables you to animate your photos by simply uploading an image and providing a description of the desired scene, including actions and sound effects
This feature is currently available to Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers in over 150 countries. Users can generate up to three videos per day, each with a visible "Veo" watermark and an invisible SynthID digital watermark to ensure authenticity and combat misinformation.
The process is straightforward
Open the Gemini app and select the “Videos” option.
1. Upload your photo.
2. Describe the scene, including any desired actions and audio elements.
3. Generate the video and download or share it as needed.
This development marks a significant step forward in AI-powered video creation, making it easier than ever to bring your photos to life with sound and motion.
