OpenAI is making changes to its operations. They want to raise even more money to keep pushing their AI projects forward. To do this, they are planning to turn their for-profit arm into a public benefit corporation (PBC). Basically, this means they will try to balance making money with doing good for society. This shift hasn’t been without drama. Some people, including Elon Musk and Meta, are worried it might lean too much toward profit and forget the whole “public benefit” part. But OpenAI insists this move is necessary to keep up with the massive funding needed for advanced AI development. They have already raised billions, but they are aiming for more while promising their nonprofit side will stay deeply involved.
Google’s Gemini AI is being tested in an interesting way, contractors are comparing its responses to those of Anthropic’s AI model, Claude. Interestingly, internal documents show some Claude responses popping up directly, even identifying themselves as “I am Claude, created by Anthropic.” This raises questions about whether Google got Anthropic’s permission to use Claude for these comparisons. The contractors have a tough job—they spend up to 30 minutes per prompt evaluating things like accuracy and safety. Claude, for instance, is known for strict safety settings, sometimes refusing to answer unsafe prompts. On the other hand, Gemini’s responses have faced some issues, including one flagged for containing inappropriate content. Google says it’s only comparing outputs as part of evaluations, not using Claude to train Gemini. But with Anthropic’s policies forbidding such use without approval, this situation has sparked curiosity and some tension within the AI space.

Elon Musk’s xAI has just raised a whopping $6 billion in funding, doubling its valuation to $45 billion. Big players like Andreessen Horowitz, BlackRock, Nvidia, and Saudi Arabia’s Kingdom Holdings (which chipped in $400 million) were part of this round. Interestingly, only existing investors and those who helped fund Musk’s Twitter takeover got the chance to invest. xAI is ramping up development on its AI model, Grok. If you are on X (formerly Twitter), you might have already seen Grok in action. It’s known for answering bold, even controversial questions—something Elon says sets it apart from “politically correct” competitors. xAI isn’t stopping there. They are working on new features for Grok, like better image generation and advanced tools for X users.
On another note, xAI is making moves with its chatbot, Grok. They are testing a new iOS app in countries like Australia, bringing Grok beyond X (formerly Twitter) for the first time. This chatbot is designed to be helpful, truthful, and curious—ready to answer your questions, summarize long texts, rewrite content, or even create images from text prompts. Grok pulls real-time data from the web and X, so it stays updated. There’s also a website in the works, Grok.com, where users will soon be able to access it directly. Initially, Grok was only for X subscribers, but a free version was tested in November, and now it’s open to all users. Grok’s image generator is pretty advanced, allowing users to create photorealistic images without many restrictions. It’s clear xAI is aiming to make Grok more accessible and powerful for everyone.
