Meta has launched a tool that adds a watermark to AI-created videos

Meta is tackling the rise of deepfakes with a new tool that adds invisible watermarks to AI-generated videos, making it easier to spot fakes. And then there is YouTube which just rolled out its auto-dubbing feature to more channels. So, grab a seat, sit back, and indulge. Back in October, Google launched NotebookLM for businesses, an upgraded version of its popular AI note-taking app. Now, they are introducing NotebookLM Plus, designed with extra security and privacy features for companies. It is pretty much the same as the regular version, but with more control over data and team collaboration. Employees can create notebooks, upload files, and add audio summaries, while also being able to search and share their work across teams. The business version also offers extras like more audio summaries, customizable AI responses, and the ability to share notebooks with analytics. Also, it is part of Google Cloud’s new Agentspace, where users can manage tasks like document analysis and translating files. NotebookLM Plus is available through Google Workspace or separately via Google Cloud. Starting next year, individuals can access it through Google’s $20/month AI Premium plan. Google has also updated the app’s audio feature, allowing users to interact with the AI-generated hosts for more detailed responses.

OpenAI has hit back at Elon Musk’s lawsuit, saying his claims are misleading. The lawsuit says OpenAI gave up its original mission to make AI accessible to everyone, but OpenAI shared emails and texts showing that Elon had been okay with combining nonprofit and for-profit parts of the company from the start. Back in 2017, Elon even suggested merging OpenAI with a hardware startup and pitched a $1 billion deal with Tesla, but OpenAI turned him down. Elon left the company in 2018, and while OpenAI says they have offered him equity in their for-profit branch, he turned it down. Now with his own company, xAI, Musk is accusing OpenAI of blocking funding for its rivals by pressuring investors. Even so, xAI recently raised $6 billion. Meanwhile, OpenAI is under pressure to finish its shift to a for-profit model to keep investors happy.

YouTube has announced that its auto-dubbing feature is now available to a lot more channels. This tool, which automatically adds translated audio to videos, was first introduced last year but was only available to a small group of creators. Now, it's rolling out to channels that focus on informational content, like cooking or sewing tutorials, with plans to expand to other types of content soon. To try it out, just upload your video as usual, and YouTube will detect the language and create dubbed versions in languages like English, Spanish, French, and more. The tool uses Google’s Gemini tech to replicate human speech, but YouTube warns it might not be perfect just yet. There could be some translation issues or the dubbed voice might not sound exactly like the original speaker. They are working on improving it and appreciate creators’ patience. YouTube also mentioned an upcoming feature called “Expressive Speech” to better capture a creator’s tone and emotions.

Deepfakes are becoming more common, with a huge rise in fake videos online. In fact, the number of deepfakes has jumped 4x from 2023 to 2024, making up 7% of all fraud online. To help tackle this, Meta has launched a new tool called Video Seal. This tool adds an invisible watermark to AI-generated videos, helping to spot fakes and protect original content. It’s open source, so other software can use it too. Pierre Fernandez, an AI expert at Meta, shared that Video Seal is more reliable than other watermarking tools, especially when videos are compressed or edited. It also includes a hidden message that can be uncovered later to track the video’s origin. This new tool adds to Meta’s growing list of anti-fake tech, like Watermark Anything and Audio Seal, making it easier to fight back against deepfakes.
