Microsoft introduced a new line of PCs featuring AI capabilities, dubbed "Copilot+," aiming to integrate AI into their products and compete with industry giants like Alphabet and Apple. These PCs, starting at $1,000 have enhanced AI processing directly on the device, offering features like "Recall" to track user activities. Microsoft anticipates 50 million AI PCs to be sold within the year, banking on faster AI assistants as a major selling point. This move signifies a push towards a future where AI plays a central role in computing. Also, Microsoft showed advancements in its surface devices, leveraging Qualcomm chips and introducing Prism technology to bridge software compatibility across chip architectures.

OpenAI's recent creation that has the semblance of Scarlett Johansson's voice from "Her," has ignited controversy within Hollywood, prompting concerns about AI's impact on creative rights. Despite claims by OpenAI that the voice is not Johansson's, her accusations of mimicry without consent have drawn attention to broader issues of AI's relationship with entertainment. Hollywood insiders have engaged in discussions with OpenAI regarding potential collaborations, even as concerns persist about the use of copyrighted material in AI training. The dispute raises questions about the protection of performers' rights, with legal precedents cited to support Johansson's case.

Amazon is upgrading Alexa with powerful generative AI capabilities, allowing for more natural and contextual conversations. However, the company plans to make users pay extra for this upgraded "conversational" version of Alexa through a separate subscription, beyond the existing $139 Amazon Prime membership. While we don’t have full details, this paid AI-powered Alexa will offer enhanced language understanding, the ability to handle multiple requests seamlessly, and an overall more intelligent experience. During last year's device event, Amazon previewed the new Alexa powered by large language models. CEO Andy Jassy has stated the company's aim is "an even more intelligent and capable Alexa." This move comes as major tech companies race to integrate generative AI into their digital assistants since the emergence of ChatGPT. Google has launched its Gemini AI assistant, while Apple is rumored to release Siri upgrade at WWDC next month. As this AI assistant war heats up, Amazon is betting consumers will pay a premium for a radically improved Alexa experience. Would you be paying for the upgraded Alexa?
Truecaller has taken its AI Assistant to new heights with the ability to answer calls using your own voice. With Microsoft's innovative Personal Voice technology, you can now create a digital replica of your voice for the assistant to use when interacting with callers. Just imagine - instead of a robotic voice, your loved ones and contacts will hear your familiar, authentic voice when the AI handles calls for you. No more feeling like you're talking to a robot! This personalized experience is made possible through Truecaller's partnership with Microsoft Azure AI Speech. Microsoft has embedded responsible AI principles too, like voice watermarking to ensure transparency. Raphael Mimoun, Truecaller's Product Director, expressed excitement about this "groundbreaking capability" that adds "familiarity and comfort" while showcasing AI's power to transform our digital interactions. The personal voice rollout will begin soon in the US, Canada, Australia, South Africa, India, Sweden, and Chile.
