Ilya Sutskever, former co-founder of OpenAI has launched a new AI start-up called Safe Superintelligence (SSI), focusing on developing AI safely. Sutskever, who was OpenAI’s chief scientist, left along with his colleague Jan Leike to start this new project. Their departure led to OpenAI shutting down its Superalignment team, which managed AI control. At SSI, Sutskever is emphasizing a strong commitment to safety without being pressured by commercial interests. He has teamed up with Daniel Gross and Daniel Levy, and their company is based in Palo Alto and Tel Aviv.

Nvidia has become the world's most valuable company, worth $3.34 trillion, overtaking Microsoft and previously Apple. Its stock price has nearly doubled this year, fueled by its leadership in AI chips, which are now crucial in tech. Analysts predict a race to a $4 trillion market cap among Nvidia, Apple, and Microsoft. However, questions are raised about whether Nvidia can sustain its rapid growth with increasing competition. Nvidia's success is tied to its role in developing chips for AI and benefiting from trends like Bitcoin mining. CEO Jensen Huang has gained celebrity status for leading Nvidia through this period. Despite challenges, Nvidia continues to exceed financial expectations, highlighting its strong position in the competitive AI market.

Google Gemini is now available on more Android phones through the Google Messages app and allows users to interact like Apple's Intelligent Assistant. You can chat with Gemini to draft messages, brainstorm, and ask questions directly within your messaging app, much like using ChatGPT. It was initially limited to certain devices like Google Pixel and newer Samsung models, but now works on any Android phone with the latest Google Messages version, at least 6GB of RAM, and RCS messaging enabled. To use Gemini, you need to sign in with a personal account (not managed by Family Link or Google Workspace), be 18 or older, and live in a supported country with English or French language settings.

McDonald’s is ending its experiment with AI-driven drive-thru ordering. They partnered with IBM to use automated voice bots at more than 100 American restaurants, aiming to speed up service. However, after facing issues like orders going wrong due to mixing up information from different customers, they have decided to remove this technology from all locations by July 26, 2024. Despite this setback, McDonald’s still sees voice ordering as part of their future plans. They are now looking into new AI solutions, including possibly teaming up with Google’s GenAI for their drive-thru’s technology.
