Google to End Support for Early Nest Thermostats This October

Google has announced that it will discontinue support for its first- and second-generation Nest Learning Thermostats, effective October 25, 2025. These models, originally released in 2011 and 2012, will no longer receive software updates or be controllable via the Google Home and Nest apps. However, users will still be able to adjust temperature and schedules directly on the devices. In addition to ending support for these early models, Google will cease launching new Nest thermostat products in Europe. The company cited the complexity of diverse heating systems across European homes as a significant challenge. To assist users during this transition, Google is offering discounts on newer models. U.S. customers can receive $130 off the 4th-generation Nest Learning Thermostat, while Canadian customers are eligible for a CA$160 discount. European users are being offered a 50% discount on the Tado Smart Thermostat X, a third-party device compatible with Google Home.
