Meta releases its CapCut rival Edits globally

Meta has just launched Edits, a free video editing app designed to rival TikTok's CapCut, now available globally on iOS and Android. Aimed at content creators, Edits offers a suite of tools to streamline video production and enhance creativity. Key features include an "Ideas" tool for jotting down concepts, a "Projects" feature for organizing work, and an "Inspirations" section to explore trending audio. Advanced editing capabilities like AI-powered animations from static images, green screen effects, and subject cutouts are also integrated. Notably, Edits allows users to export videos without watermarks, a feature that typically requires a paid subscription on CapCut. The app's launch follows a period of uncertainty for TikTok and CapCut in the U.S., during which they were temporarily removed from app stores. Meta appears to be positioning Edits as a versatile tool for creators across various platforms, including Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and YouTube Shorts. Looking ahead, Meta plans to introduce additional features such as AI-driven "Modify" tools, keyframe editing, collaborative options, and an expanded library of fonts, transitions, and sound effects. While all features are currently free, future updates may include premium options. For creators seeking a comprehensive, watermark-free editing solution, Edits presents a compelling new option in the digital content landscape.
