Meta is pushing back the release of its new mixed reality glasses, codenamed Phoenix, from late 2026 to early 2027. The news comes as the company faces pressure to tighten its metaverse spending.

According to report, the glasses would look similar to Apple's Vision Pro, with a separate puck-like power source. This is different from Meta's current products like the Quest VR headsets and Ray-Ban smart glasses.

The delay apparently came after meetings where CEO Mark Zuckerberg told executives to take more time to make the business sustainable and deliver better experiences. Meta leaders Gabriel Aul and Ryan Cairns told staff the extra time would give them more breathing room to get the details right.

The timing is notable. Bloomberg reported earlier this week that Meta plans to cut its metaverse budget by up to 30%. The company already sells VR headsets and smart glasses, but building profitable mixed reality products has proven challenging.

Meta has been investing heavily in Reality Labs, its metaverse division, for years. The delay suggests the company is taking a more cautious approach as it balances innovation with financial sustainability.
