Heyyyyy Family! We have been looking forward to the weekend, because you know, it’s the WEEKEND - but ultimately because we get to send you our weekly roundup mail on everything that happened during the week. The best part of writing newsletters like this weekly is how it serves as a reminder for us as well on the bits and bots of activities from the industry. One that stood out for us this week was instagram looking to introduce a repost feature. PAUSE! TAKE A BREATH! Yes, at this point, instagram wants to be TikTok so bad. No so many people are welcoming of the idea but if there’s anything we know about Meta, they are going to do what they want to do. Anyways, there’s so much more to catch up on, we will let you get to it right away,

Ciao!

Here's your curated dose of the most significant events in the AI ecosystem this week

  1. Meta Just Dropped New Oakley Smart Glasses

  2. Midjourney launches its first AI video generation model, V1

  3. Adobe’s Firefly comes to iOS and Android

  4. Instagram tests a reposts feature

Meta has teamed up with Oakley to launch a new pair of smart glasses called the Oakley Meta HSTN (pronounced “Houston”). These are not your average glasses,  they are built for action, designed with athletes, creators, and outdoorsy people in mind.

You can shoot crisp 3K videos straight from your face using the built-in camera. The battery lasts up to 8 hours of active use (and even longer with the case). You can also talk to Meta AI directly, just say things like “Hey Meta, record this” or “What’s the weather like?” and it gets to work. Oh, and the audio? Open-ear speakers plus five mics so you can hear and be heard clearly, even when you are in transit.

They are water-resistant, come in multiple styles and lens options (including those Oakley signature performance lenses), and the frames are made from eco-friendly materials that grip well when you are active. The limited edition version with gold accents drops July 11 and starts at $499, while standard models will follow at $399. They’ll launch first in North America, Europe, and Australia, with more regions like India and Mexico coming later.

With athletes like Kylian Mbappé backing it, Meta’s clearly betting big on this, and it’s not just about fashion anymore. They are building AI wearables for real use, not just looks.

Midjourney just dropped its first video tool, called V1, and it’s all about turning your still images into short animated clips. You pick an image, hit “Animate,” and V1 gives you four video options, each around 5 seconds long. If you want more time, you can stretch it up to 21 seconds total. You can also choose how much movement you want, something subtle like a breeze, or more dramatic scenes with full-on camera motion. This all works inside Discord or from the web. It’s available on Midjourney’s $10/month basic plan, but video clips cost more than regular image generations. If you’re on the higher-tier plans ($60 or $120), you get more video time with fewer limits.

Midjourney’s video tool puts it in the same league as big names like OpenAI’s Sora or Google’s Veo. It’s also a sign that Midjourney might be heading toward creating 3D worlds or real-time animated environments in the future. But there’s some drama too. Right after launch, Disney and Universal filed lawsuits, accusing Midjourney of using copyrighted characters in its content. So while the tech is exciting, there’s also a lot of debate around how AI should be used in creative work.

Adobe just released a brand new Firefly app for phones, so now you can create AI-generated images and short videos right from your iPhone or Android.

You can type in a prompt like “sunset over a calm lake” and Firefly will instantly turn your words into a high-quality image or animation. You can also edit photos on the go using tools like Fill to remove objects or Expand to stretch out a scene, just like in Photoshop. One amazing feature is that you can animate still pictures directly from your phone. It also lets you choose from other AI models, not just Adobe’s. You can switch between Firefly and models from OpenAI, Google, Runway, Ideogram, Luma, Pika, and more. Everything you make is saved in the cloud, so you can start on your phone and finish later on desktop or in any Adobe app.

The Firefly mobile plan starts at $10 a month, and that gives you unlimited image generations. Video generation uses extra credits. If you already have a Creative Cloud subscription, you are good to go, and you can always add more credits for advanced AI models. This release is a big step for Adobe because it puts powerful creative tools right in your pocket.

Instagram is testing a new repost feature that lets you share someone else’s post or Reel directly to your main feed. Up until now, you could only share content in Stories or use third-party apps, but this will change all that. Some users are already seeing the feature. When you repost something, it shows up in your feed and gets its own tab on your profile. You’ll also be able to choose whether people can repost your content.

Supporters say this makes it easier to share posts you like and give credit to original creators. On the flip side, some worry Instagram is becoming even more cluttered with yet another content type alongside posts, Stories, Reels, Notes, DMs, and ads. Instagram hasn’t said when or if the feature will roll out to everyone, but this move would put it in line with features seen on Threads, TikTok, and the old-school “Retweet” on Twitter.
