Meta's annual Connect conference had some unexpected moments this year. During the live demos for their new smart glasses, a few things went awry, even though they had blamed the Wi-Fi at the time.
Meta's CTO, Andrew Bosworth, has since explained what really happened. Apparently, when a chef on stage said the trigger phrase "Hey Meta, start Live AI," it actually activated the smart glasses of everyone in the audience who was also wearing them. This created a massive surge of traffic to their demo server, basically causing a self-inflicted "DDoS" attack. It's something they hadn't seen in rehearsals because there weren't as many people with the glasses in the room.
Then, during another demo, Mark Zuckerberg was trying to take a video call on his glasses. A bug that had never been seen before caused the display to go to sleep at the exact moment the call notification came in. This "race condition" meant that even after he woke the display back up, the option to answer the call never appeared.
Bosworth said the company has since fixed the bugs and that these were demo fails, not product failures. It just goes to show you that even the most rehearsed live events can have a hiccup or two.

For a while now, American companies like Nvidia have been the go-to for the super-powerful chips needed to run all that AI. But with new government rules, getting those chips into China has become a real challenge for them.
This created a huge opening for Huawei to walk in.
The company just announced its own new AI infrastructure, and it’s a big deal. They're making a strong push to provide a home-grown alternative to those powerful Western chips.
This isn't just about a new product announcement; it's a huge strategic move. With the full support of the Chinese government and a massive domestic market eager for this technology, Huawei could quickly become a serious global competitor. It's a clear example of how trade policies and international relations can directly shape the tech world.
So, while we're all watching the latest gadgets and software, this kind of news reminds us that the biggest moves in technology often happen behind the scenes, driven by forces far beyond just engineering and design. It's a fascinating look at how companies, and even entire countries, are adapting to a changing world.

Two-year-old AI code review startup CodeRabbit has successfully raised $60 million in Series B funding. This investment values the company at an impressive $550 million. The funding round was led by Scale Venture Partners and included participation from NVentures, Nvidia's venture capital arm, as well as existing investors.
The company's platform uses AI to automate the code review process, a crucial step in software development. This is especially important as the widespread use of AI-assisted coding tools has led to a surge in the volume of code, which can be prone to errors and security vulnerabilities.
CodeRabbit's growth has been rapid, with revenue increasing tenfold in the past year. The company currently serves over 8,000 paying customers and is used on more than 100,000 open-source projects. This new capital will be used to accelerate global hiring, expand product development, and enhance its platform capabilities across various development environments.

Google is making a big move into the Windows desktop experience with a new experimental app that brings a powerful, universal search tool to the platform. This new application is being rolled out through the company's Search Labs program and offers a familiar, yet enhanced, way to find information on your PC.
The app's main feature is a floating search bar that can be activated instantly with the keyboard shortcut Alt + Space. This is a game-changer for Windows users, as it allows them to search for anything, from local files and installed applications to documents stored in Google Drive and information on the web, without having to leave the window they are currently working in. This "Spotlight-like" functionality, long a popular feature on macOS, aims to streamline the workflow for a more seamless and efficient user experience.
Beyond basic search, the app is powered by Google's cutting-edge technology. It includes the integration of Google Lens, which allows users to select and search for any text or image on their screen. This opens up a world of possibilities, from translating text in an image to getting help with a math problem just by pointing at it. The app also features an "AI Mode," which provides more detailed, conversational responses to complex questions, leveraging Google's generative AI capabilities.
Currently, this app is in an experimental phase and is limited to users in the United States who have a personal Google account. It requires Windows 10 or newer. While it's still in its early stages, this new app signals Google's intent to create a deeper, more integrated presence on the Windows platform, blending local and cloud content into a single, intelligent search experience.
