Coldplay Ex-Wife Gwyneth Paltrow Drops Astronomer’s Viral Comeback Video
Astronomer just pulled off a PR coup that made the whole internet a busy group chat! On Friday, they dropped a promotional video featuring Gwyneth Paltrow, ex-wife of Coldplay’s Chris Martin, as their “very temporary spokesperson.” This comes hot on the heels of a viral scandal that thrust the data workflow company into the spotlight, and they are making the most of it.
The Scandal That Started It All
It all began on July 16, 2025, at a Coldplay concert in Massachusetts. Astronomer’s then-CEO Andy Byron and Chief People Officer Kristin Cabot were caught on the jumbotron’s “kiss cam” in a cozy embrace. Both married to others, they awkwardly ducked out of sight, prompting Chris Martin to jest, “Either they are having an affair, or they’re just very shy.” The clip went viral, racking up millions of views and sparking a meme frenzy. By July 19, Byron had resigned, followed by Cabot on July 24. Astronomer’s website reportedly saw a 15,000% traffic surge as the internet ate it up.

Gwyneth Paltrow, whose connection to Martin adds a delicious layer of irony. In the 60-second video posted on Astronomer’s X account , Paltrow, dressed in a crisp blue shirt, deadpans, “I’ve been hired on a very temporary basis to speak on behalf of the 300-plus employees at Astronomer.” As on-screen captions flash cheeky questions like “OMG! What the actual f**k?” and “How is your social media team holding up?”, she deftly pivots to tout Astronomer’s expertise in Apache Airflow and their Beyond Analytics conference in September. The video, viewed over 2.5 million times in hours, ends with her saying, “We will now be returning to what we do best: delivering game-changing results for our customers.”
A Masterclass in Crisis Management
Astronomer’s move is a textbook example of turning a crisis into an opportunity. Rather than shying away, they leaned into the viral moment, using humor and Paltrow’s star power to redirect focus to their data orchestration platform, trusted by over 700 enterprises. PR expert Mark Borkowski called it “utter genius,” noting that the lighthearted approach keeps the focus on Astronomer’s strengths without trivializing their work. Interim CEO Pete DeJoy, stepping in after Byron’s exit, admitted the attention was “surreal” but welcomed the chance to showcase their mission.
With the scandal behind them and Paltrow’s video racking up likes, Astronomer is poised to capitalize on their newfound fame. Their platform, downloaded 324 million times in 2024, is gaining traction, and the September conference is already generating interest.
