Google to Invest $1 billion in AI education

Google is investing $1 billion over the next three years to help U.S. colleges and nonprofits give more people the skills they need to work with artificial intelligence. More than 100 schools, including Texas A&M and the University of North Carolina, have already signed up to take part. The funding will come in the form of cash grants, free cloud computing time, research support, and free access for students to a premium version of Google’s Gemini AI chatbot.

The company’s goal is to eventually include every nonprofit college in the U.S., and it’s also looking at ways to bring similar programs to other countries. Google CEO Sundar Pichai says today’s students are the first generation to grow up with AI as a normal part of life, and they’ll need strong AI skills to succeed in future careers.

This announcement also shows how competitive the AI education space has become, with companies like Microsoft making multi-billion-dollar investments of their own. For Google, the program is not only about giving students better tools and opportunities, but also about shaping the next wave of workers who will build and use AI in the years to come.
