Your Weekly AI Digest

Editor’s Note
Welcome to another weekend of AI and Tech digest. It’s safe to say that even if you lived under a rock, you must’ve heard one way or another that Google dominated the industry this week with their Met Gala styled event, Google I/O 2025. There were so many announcements, and in case you really do live under a rock and missed it all, we’ve got you!
Here's your curated dose of the most significant events in the AI ecosystem this week
Apple prepares to launch its first AI-powered smart glasses by 2026.
Google is bringing ads to AI Mode
Google Meet will now give real-time speech translation
Google announces new features on Wear OS 6

Apple is reportedly gearing up to launch its first AI-powered smart glasses by late 2026, signaling a major leap into the wearables space. According to Bloomberg, the device will come equipped with standard hardware like a camera and microphone and integrate tightly with Siri, allowing users to take calls, get directions, and interact with their environment using just their voice. This move highlights Apple’s growing ambition to blend artificial intelligence with everyday consumer tech. Behind the scenes, Apple is also working on custom chips to power these glasses, drawing inspiration from the low-energy processors found in the Apple Watch. These chips will also support broader AI efforts across Macs and server infrastructure. The timing is strategic. Meta’s Ray-Ban Meta glasses have already gained traction in the market, and Google is pushing its Android XR platform with new partnerships in the smart eyewear space. Mass production is expected to begin with overseas suppliers by the end of 2025, setting Apple up to make a splash in the AI wearables race. With its deep ecosystem and history of defining product categories, Apple’s smart glasses could become the next big thing in tech.

Google is officially adding ads to its AI-powered search results—yes, even the ones that sound like a chatbot talking back to you. The feature, called AI Mode, gives users direct, conversational answers to their questions. Now, ads will be woven into those answers. So, if you ask “How do I build a website?”, you might get a suggestion for a specific website builder, paid placement, of course. This isn’t just a random experiment. Google’s ad business pulled in over $260 billion last year, and they clearly want AI to keep the money flowing. If you are already running ads through Google’s Search, Shopping, or Performance Max campaigns, your ads might start showing up in AI Mode, especially if you use broad match targeting. Google is also putting out these ads in its AI Overviews, the short summaries that appear at the top of search results. Right now, that’s only for desktop users in the U.S., but international rollouts are on the way. Not everyone is excited about this, though. Some marketers are worried that if AI gives users all the info upfront, fewer people will click through to actual websites. Google says it’s working on finding the right balance between helpful answers and making sure advertisers still get results.

Google Meet is rolling out a new feature that translates your speech into another language in real time. Unveiled at Google I/O 2025, this tool uses the company’s Gemini AI to let people speak in their own language while their words are instantly translated into their conversation partner’s preferred language. The translation even mimics the speaker’s voice and tone, making the conversation feel more natural. Currently, the feature supports English and Spanish and is available in beta for subscribers of Google’s AI Pro and AI Ultra plans. More languages, including Italian, German, and Portuguese, are expected to be added soon. This development aims to make virtual meetings more inclusive by breaking down language barriers. While the technology isn’t perfect, users might experience occasional delays or minor inaccuracies; it represents a significant step toward more seamless multilingual communication. For now, the feature is geared toward individual users, but Google plans to expand it to business users through its Workspace platform later this year.

Google has just unveiled Wear OS 6, bringing a new look and smarter features to its smartwatch platform. The standout change is the new Material 3 Expressive design, which introduces smoother animations, rounded visuals, and dynamic color themes that match your watch face, making the interface feel more cohesive and personalized. Beyond aesthetics, Wear OS 6 integrates Gemini, Google’s advanced AI assistant, replacing the traditional Google Assistant. Gemini offers more natural interactions and deeper integration with apps like Gmail, enhancing tasks such as managing reservations and summarizing information. Developers are also getting new tools, including updated libraries and design guidelines, to create more dynamic and responsive apps tailored for circular watch displays. This means users can expect smoother transitions and more intuitive app layouts. Additionally, Wear OS 6 promises improved battery life, with Google stating up to a 10% increase in efficiency. This enhancement translates to longer usage times, allowing users to get more out of their smartwatches throughout the day. Overall, Wear OS 6 aims to deliver a more personalized, efficient, and seamless experience for smartwatch users, blending aesthetic upgrades with functional enhancements.
