Google has made video editing more accessible for Workspace users by adding a direct shortcut to its AI-powered Vids app within Google Drive. The new feature allows users to seamlessly transition from viewing a video in Drive to editing it in Vids with a single click.

When previewing videos in Google Drive, users will now see an “Open” button in the top right corner that automatically launches the file in Vids for editing. The integration enables quick video modifications including trimming clips, adding music and text overlays, and applying other enhancements without leaving the Google ecosystem.

This update represents Google’s continued effort to integrate Vids more deeply into its Workspace suite. Launched in 2024, Vids leverages artificial intelligence to streamline video production through features like text-to-video generation, automatic script creation, clip rearrangement, and transition effects. The shortcut feature is enabled by default for Workspace users, indicating Google’s confidence in driving adoption of its video creation tool. The integration builds on other AI-powered video features Google has introduced, including a Gemini-powered video summarization tool that launched earlier this year.
