It's time to savor the excitement of what the AI world has served up this week!

Here's your curated dose of the most significant events in the AI ecosystem this week:

  1. Microsoft to introduce Auto SR for its Copilot Plus PCs this month

  2. TikTok parent company found a hack to rent advanced AI chips from Nvidia and using them in the U.S. despite restrictions.

  3. China company, Kuaishou has launched Sora replica, KLING

  4. Meta’s WhatsApp launches new AI tools for businesses

Microsoft is introducing a brilliant feature called Automatic Super Resolution (Auto SR) for its upcoming Copilot Plus PCs. This AI-powered technology will automatically upscale game resolutions and boost frame rates, providing a smoother and more visually stunning gaming experience. What sets Auto SR apart is its seamless integration with existing games, requiring no manual configurations or developer involvement. Utilizing dedicated Neural Processing Units (NPUs), Auto SR applies AI enhancements to game visuals while rendering at lower resolutions, improving both frame rates and energy efficiency. Launching on June 18th.

ByteDance, the Chinese company that owns TikTok, found a clever workaround to get their hands on Nvidia's powerful AI chips for their U.S. operations. Even though there are strict rules against exporting this tech to China, ByteDance is basically renting these chips from the American cloud company Oracle to use right in the States. Now, it's not exactly illegal, but it definitely goes against the whole point of the U.S. export restrictions, which are meant to pump the brakes on China's AI capabilities and prevent that tech from being exploited by them. As it is, regulators are working to close this loophole by making cloud companies verify who their foreign customers are and how they plan to use the AI. But those cloud firms are pushing back, saying it's too much hassle. And even if they do manage to plug this hole, Chinese companies with their own data centers in the U.S. could potentially still get the restricted chips.

Kuaishou, the big rival to TikTok's sister app Douyin, just launched a new feature that turns text into videos like OpenAI Sora. It's called the Kling AI Model and it's still in the trial phase, but it can make 2-minute 1080p videos just from written descriptions. Some of the demo videos show a cat driving a car through a city, a kid eating a burger at a fast food place, and another kid riding a bike as the seasons change - all from just typing out those scenes! Kuaishou isn't the only one working on this technology though. A startup called Shengshu Technology teamed up with Tsinghua University to make something similar called Vidu. Another AI company named Zhipu AI is supposed to release their own version later this year.

Meta just rolled out a new AI feature for businesses on WhatsApp. Here's how it works; The AI will look at your activity on Facebook and Instagram. If you have shared your phone number with a business, it can then show you personalized messages and ads from that business in your WhatsApp chats. That’s not all. Meta also launched a chatbot that can answer common business questions for you directly in the WhatsApp chat. Need to check store hours or find a catalog? The bot can help with stuff like that. Quite epic, isn’t it?
