Hello community member,

New implementation on social networking apps always arose controversy as a result of some people accepting of the change while others expressing disapproval - this is the case of the new instagram dislike comment button, what do you think of it? Good or nah? Anyways, a lot more happened in tech this week - So grab a seat, sit back, and indulge. It's time to savor the excitement of what the AI world has served up this week!

Here's your curated dose of the most significant events in the AI ecosystem this week:

  1. Instagram tests a ‘dislike’ button for comments

  2. TikTok is back temporarily on US Apple Store and Play Store

  3. Gemini can now remember last conversation with the new Recall Feature

  4. YouTube Short introduces new AI video generating tool

Instagram is at it again, testing something new, a ‘dislike’ button for comments. Unlike the usual ‘like’ heart, this one is a downward arrow. when you tap it, no one else sees it. It’s private, just between you and Instagram. The idea is to help filter out unhelpful or offensive comments by pushing them lower in the thread. Although this sounds helpful, not everyone is sold on it. Some worry it could encourage negativity, while others see it as a simple way to keep conversations cleaner. Instagram has been tweaking engagement features for a while. This could be another step in making the platform feel better for users. Right now, it’s only being tested with a small group, so it’s not widely available yet.

TikTok is back on the App Store and Google Play—but the drama isn’t over yet. If you have been following the back-and-forth, you know TikTok was pulled from both stores due to a law requiring its parent company, ByteDance, to either sell the app or face a ban over national security concerns. But now, there is a twist, President Trump has signed an executive order giving TikTok a 75-day extension, meaning the app can stay while negotiations continue. This decision has evoked mixed reactions. Some see it as a fair chance to work out a deal without abruptly cutting off millions of users, while others worry about potential risks during this grace period. Either way, for now, TikTok remains available for downloads and updates.

Google’s Gemini AI just got an upgrade, it can now remember things you tell it. Instead of repeating yourself every time you chat with it, Gemini will keep track of details like your favorite topics, dietary preferences, or work routines to personalize its responses. This memory feature is only available to users on the Google One AI Premium Plan, and for now, it works only on the web version of Gemini. Mobile support is expected soon. The good side to this development is that you are in control. You can see what Gemini remembers, edit details, or even wipe everything if you prefer. Plus, it will notify you when it uses stored information, so there are no surprises. This could make AI assistants feel a lot more personal, what do you think of this update?

YouTube just upgraded Shorts with a new AI tool called Dream Screen. This feature lets you create short video clips just by typing a text prompt. Think “a cat surfing on a rainbow” or “a futuristic city at night” – and YouTube’s AI will generate a short video for you. If you’d like to try it out for yourself, just open the Shorts camera, go to the media picker, tap Create, and enter your prompt. You can choose the style, effects, and length of the video before adding it to your Shorts. Right now, Dream Screen is available in the US, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, with more regions coming soon. And to keep things transparent, all AI-generated content will have a watermark.
