Anthropic Launches Claude AI Agent for Chrome

Anthropic has launched Claude for Chrome, a browser-based AI agent that operates within a Chrome extension to help users complete web tasks. The feature is currently available to 1,000 subscribers on Anthropic’s $100-200 monthly Max plan, with a waitlist for additional users. The extension allows users to chat with Claude in a sidebar while browsing, with the AI maintaining context of their activity. Users can grant Claude permission to take actions like filling forms and navigating websites on their behalf. This launch intensifies competition in AI-powered browsing. Perplexity recently launched its Comet browser with similar capabilities, while OpenAI reportedly plans its own AI browser. The race has gained urgency due to Google’s antitrust case, where a judge may force Chrome’s sale. Both Perplexity and OpenAI have expressed interest in acquiring the browser. Anthropic has implemented security measures after vulnerabilities were found in competing AI browsers. The company reduced successful prompt injection attacks from 23.6% to 11.2% and blocks Claude from accessing financial, adult, and pirated content by default. The system requests permission before high-risk actions like purchases or sharing personal data.
