Apple Discontinues Clips

After eight years, Apple is officially saying goodbye to its video-editing app, Clips. The app, which was originally launched in 2017 to help users create short, fun videos with features like filters, music, and animated titles (similar to what you'd see on platforms like Snapchat or Instagram Stories), will no longer receive new updates and is being pulled from the App Store starting on October 10, 2025.

If you are a current user who already has Clips installed, you can still use it on devices running iOS 26 or iPadOS 26 and earlier. However, the company is urging everyone to save their video projects right away, as support for the app will eventually end, meaning it won't get necessary bug fixes or compatibility updates in the future.

Apple suggests that users who want to keep creating videos should move their saved clips to their Photos app or cloud storage. For new projects, the company is pointing users toward its own iMovie app for more powerful editing, or they can pivot to popular third-party apps like InShot, VN Video Editor, and GoPro Quik.

This move is part of a recurring pattern where Apple phases out older, less-used apps to focus on its core software, leaving fans of the easy-to-use Clips app to find a new favorite tool.
