Anthropic’s Claude AI model can now handle longer prompts
On August 12, 2025, Anthropic announced a significant upgrade to its Claude AI models, enabling enterprise users to submit much longer prompts, now comfortably handling up to one million tokens in a single input. This leap forward marks a bold step in the company’s efforts to draw in more developers and meet the growing demands of large‑scale code and document processing.
Imagine feeding the entire text of War and Peace, all two‑and‑a‑half thousand pages, into an AI in one swoop. That’s now possible with Claude Sonnet 4’s expanded “context window,” which previously held just half that amount. In coding terms, it means moving from analyzing around 20,000 lines of code to managing entire codebases of 75,000 to 110,000 lines in one go. This enhancement isn’t just a technical novelty, it addresses a real pain point for users. Developers have often had to break up large tasks into smaller chunks. That friction is now reduced, as Claude can take in much larger data sets all at once. As Anthropic’s product lead Brad Abrams puts it, this change lets the model tackle problems “at their full scale” without needing to be split up.
The new capability is already rolling out to high‑tier API users, those with Tier 4 and custom rate limits, but wider availability is on the horizon in the coming weeks. Behind this move is strategic positioning. Anthropic is seeking to ramp up its enterprise appeal in the ongoing “AI coding wars,” where massive context capabilities can make or break workflows involving large documents or complex code analysis . Claude’s performance in coding tasks has already earned it recognition as one of the top LLMs for code generation in 2025.
Rolling out such an upgrade naturally impacts pricing. With context inputs now exceeding 200,000 tokens, the cost per million tokens jumps from $3 to $6 for inputs and from $15 to $22.50 for outputs. Anthropic also offers prompt caching and batch processing to help offset these costs for frequent users.
Some developers, like those at Bolt.new, are already enthusiastic. Bolt.new embeds Claude into its browser‑based development tools and says the new million‑token window lets developers work on much larger projects without losing accuracy. Another company, iGent AI, is building an engineering “agent” called Maestro, powered by Claude, which now carries out multi‑day sessions on real‑world codebases. With this upgrade, tasks once considered impossible are now routine.
