Anthropic Launches Private Plugin Marketplaces for Enterprise Claude

Anthropic released a major update to Cowork earlier this week, introducing private plugin marketplaces and enhanced customization tools that let enterprises turn Claude into specialized agents for every department and role.

The release centers on plugins, portable systems that transform Claude into domain-specific assistants. Admins can now create private marketplaces to distribute these plugins across their organizations, build them from starter templates, or construct them from scratch with Claude guiding the setup process. A new unified “Customize” menu consolidates plugins, skills, and connectors, giving admins centralized control over their AI infrastructure.

Anthropic has significantly expanded the connector ecosystem, adding integrations with Google Workspace (Calendar, Drive, Gmail), Docusign, Apollo, Clay, Outreach, Similarweb, MSCI, LegalZoom, FactSet, WordPress, and Harvey. Companies including Slack, LSEG, S&P Global, and Common Room have also built plugins for joint customers.

The company introduced 10 new pre-built plugin templates designed with practitioners in each field, covering HR, design, engineering, operations, financial analysis, investment banking, equity research, private equity, and wealth management. These templates include field-specific workflows and terminology, making them immediately useful rather than requiring extensive customization.

A standout feature is Claude’s ability to work across multiple Microsoft Office apps simultaneously. In research preview, Claude can now pass context between Excel and PowerPoint, enabling end-to-end projects like running analysis in spreadsheets and automatically generating presentations from the results.

The update also improves the user experience with structured forms for slash commands, company branding throughout Cowork, and OpenTelemetry support for tracking usage and costs. Admins gain more granular control through per-user provisioning, auto-install capabilities, and private GitHub repositories as plugin sources.

Anthropic emphasizes that plugins are simple, portable file systems that users own and can deploy across Cowork and anything built on the Claude Agent SDK. This approach contrasts with locked-in platform ecosystems, giving enterprises more flexibility in how they deploy AI agents.
