Stay afraid, but do it anyway. What’s important is the action. You don’t have to wait to be confident. Just do it and eventually the confidence will follow.

Anthropic Launches Claude Cowork for Non-Coders

Anthropic has launched Claude Cowork, a new AI agent that's designed to be the everyday person's version of its popular Claude Code tool. While Claude Code became a hit with programmers, Cowork is aimed at anyone who needs help with regular work tasks, not just coding.

The tool is currently in research preview and works through the Claude Desktop app. You give Claude access to a specific folder on your computer, and it can read and modify files within that folder. The idea is simple: you tell Claude what you need in plain language, and it works in the background to get it done, giving you regular updates as it goes.

Anthropic describes Cowork as "Claude Code for the rest of your work," and the launch came about because people were already using Claude Code for non-coding tasks. The company noticed that developers started using it for all sorts of things beyond programming, which prompted them to build a version specifically designed for general work.

Anthropic gives examples like turning a folder full of receipt photos into an organized expense report, or pulling together a first draft of a report from scattered notes and documents. Essentially, it's meant to handle the kind of tedious administrative work that eats up time but doesn't require specialized technical skills.

The tool currently works only for Max subscribers, though there's a waitlist available for people on other subscription plans. Anthropic says they'll continue developing the agent after the general release based on user feedback.

But the company is also being upfront about potential risks, especially for people who've only used Claude for conversations before. Because Cowork can actually modify and delete files, there's a real chance of losing important work if you're not careful with your instructions. Anthropic is also warning about prompt injections, which are when attackers try to manipulate Claude into doing something you didn't intend.

To avoid problems, the company recommends being as clear and specific as possible with your instructions. They point out that these risks aren't unique to Cowork, but for many users, this might be their first time working with an AI tool that goes beyond just having a conversation and can actually change things on your computer.
