Anthropic Completes 4.5 Model Series with Opus Release

Anthropic rolled out Opus 4.5 on Monday, completing its 4.5 model series and delivering what the company calls its most capable AI model yet.

The release comes on the heels of Sonnet 4.5 in September and Haiku 4.5 in October, rounding out the family with a flagship model designed for complex, high-stakes tasks.

The new model sets benchmarks across multiple categories. Opus 4.5 became the first AI model to exceed 80% on SWE-Bench verified, a widely respected coding assessment. It also leads in tool use, general problem-solving, and computer interaction tasks.

But raw performance is only part of the story. Anthropic paired the launch with expanded access to Claude for Chrome and Claude for Excel, both previously limited to pilot users. The Chrome extension is now available to all Max subscribers, while the Excel integration extends to Max, Team, and Enterprise tiers.

Behind the scenes, Anthropic overhauled how the model manages memory during extended interactions. Rather than simply expanding context windows, the company focused on selective memory retention. According to Dianne Na Penn, Anthropic’s head of product management for research, the model now determines which details matter most rather than trying to remember everything.

This memory redesign enables a long-requested feature: endless chat. Paid users can now continue conversations indefinitely without hitting context limits. When the model approaches its memory ceiling, it automatically compresses context in the background.

The improvements target agentic workflows where Opus 4.5 orchestrates multiple Haiku-powered sub-agents. These scenarios demand sophisticated memory management as the lead agent navigates code repositories, reviews documents, and decides when to revisit earlier decisions..
