Hello community member,

One thing about the AI ecosystem, brands are always making moves. This week, a lot of that happened in acquisition, introduction of new features and even breaking a world record. We have gathered all the details and delivered in your inbox as always. So grab a seat, sit back, and indulge. It's time to savor the excitement of what the AI world has served up this week!

Here's your curated dose of the most significant events in the AI ecosystem this week:

  1. Perplexity acquires Read.cv

  2. AI startup Character AI tests games on the web

  3. Instagram’s New Feature Lets Your Friends See the Reels You Like

  4. China’s Black Panther 2.0 Robot Dog Breaks World Record

Read.cv, a professional networking platform that has been a creative alternative to LinkedIn have just been acquired by the AI-powered search engine Perplexity! While this means Read.cv will start winding down operations from this Friday, you will still be able to export your profile, posts, and messages until May 16. If you have used their “.cv” domains, don’t worry—those will move to Hello.cv starting January 31, so you can continue managing them. Read.cv was founded in 2021 by Andy Chung, who previously worked at companies like Facebook and Mozilla. It brought fresh tools like team profiles, job postings, and personal websites for professionals to stand out. Now, the Read.cv team is joining Perplexity to work on new projects. While it is not certain what’s next, it’s clear Perplexity is betting big on innovation.

Character AI, an AI platform where you chat with AI-powered characters, is trying something new. They recently launched two games, Speakeasy and War of Words, for paid subscribers and a few free users. This new feature enables you to chat with a character and play games. You will notice a small controller icon—tap it to start a game without losing your previous conversation. In Speakeasy, your goal is to make the character say a specific word without using five restricted clues. Think of it as a fun word puzzle. In War of Words, it’s a duel! You and the character compete, and an AI referee decides who wins each round. Character AI says these games are all about making the platform more enjoyable. It’s part of their move toward becoming an entertainment platform, not just a space for chatting with AI.

Instagram is bringing back a feature that might spark some mixed feelings. They are adding a new Reels activity tab where you can see which videos your friends have liked or commented on. Instagram’s head, Adam Mosseri, says the goal is to make the platform more social—connecting you with friends through the content you both enjoy. Basically, the new feed will show your friends’ likes and any temporary “notes” they leave on Reels. It’s a nod to Instagram’s old activity feed from 2019. While some might love the chance to see what their friends are into, others might feel uncomfortable with their likes being so public. After all, not everyone shares the same interests, and some of us just like keeping things private. This new feature appears to be a part of Instagram’s effort to compete with TikTok.

In case you have recently been hearing of Black Panther 2.0, It’s not the sequel to the movie—it’s actually a robotic dog developed by Zhejiang University and a startup called Mirror Me, this prototype is already breaking records by sprinting 100 meters in under 10 seconds. That’s faster than a lot of human sprinters! The robot weighs about 38 kg, stands 0.63 meters tall, and can take five strides per second. Right now, it’s just a prototype, but it’s impressive to see how advanced robotics has become. It makes you wonder—what could this speedster be used for? Racing? Research? Maybe something else entirely? Either way, it’s exciting to watch how this technology evolves. What would you want a robot like this to do? Tell us!!
