Hello community member,

Google newly introduced Gemini smart home control that acts as your home assistant, just like Alexa and its quite exciting the number of things it can get done. We saw a couple other development this week, and trust - we have gathered it all in your inbox - So, grab a seat, sit back, and indulge. It’s time to savor the excitement of what the AI world has served up this week!

Here's your curated dose of the most significant events in the AI ecosystem this week:

  1. Anthropic introduces Citation Features

  2. Mark Zuckerberg says Meta will have 1.3M GPUs for AI by year-end

  3. Google rolls out Gemini Smart Home Control

  4. Perplexity AI on Android

Anthropic just introduced a new feature called Citations for its Claude AI models, and it’s a game-changer for developers. This new tool lets developers make sure that AI-generated answers are grounded in real, reliable source documents. Instead of just pulling info from all over the place, Claude will now be able to cite exactly where it got its info from down to the paragraph or sentence. This makes AI responses way more trustworthy and easier to verify. It is free for developers, though there may be some small costs for processing the source documents. This feature is great for building tools like document summarizers, complex query answer systems, or customer support bots. This feature is available on the Claude 3.5 Sonnet and Haiku models.

Meta is making a big push in AI. CEO Mark Zuckerberg recently shared that the company plans to spend between $60 billion and $80 billion on infrastructure in 2025, which is about double what they spent last year. Most of this money will go toward expanding data centers and building up their AI teams. Zuckerberg also mentioned that Meta plans to bring one gigawatt of computing power online this year, enough to power 750,000 homes—and by the end of the year, their data centers will have over 1.3 million GPUs. This development comes as Meta works to stay competitive in the fast-growing AI industry, where rivals like Microsoft are also pouring billions into similar projects. With these investments, Meta is making a serious bet on AI, aiming to keep up with the big players in the industry.

Google is making it simpler to control your smart home through the Gemini app. After giving us a sneak peek last November, they are now adding some handy features. You can use natural language to control things like lights, thermostats, and speakers. For example, you can tell Gemini, "The sun is too bright in the living room," and it will close your blinds for you. You can also make multiple requests at once, like asking to turn on the armchair light and dim the kitchen lamp. Plus, Gemini now lets you check the status of your devices—like whether you left your porch light on. Google is also adding the ability to control non-sensitive devices like lights directly from your phone’s lock screen. Other updates include easier media controls for smart speakers and TVs, and security actions for cameras and locks will now open the Google Home app automatically.

Perplexity just introduced its new AI assistant for Android, called Perplexity Assistant. This assistant can handle tasks for you, like setting reminders or scheduling events, without needing your input after the initial command. It is a big step for Perplexity, moving from just answering questions to actually managing tasks and interacting with other apps. The assistant works through the Perplexity app and is free to use, available in 15 languages. It’s part of the growing trend of AI assistants that do more than just respond, they can take action. Other companies like Anthropic, Microsoft, and OpenAI are also jumping into this space with their own AI tools, so it will be interesting to see how they all compete and work together. For now, though, if you are an Android user, you can start using the Perplexity Assistant to make life a little easier..
