Your Weekly AI Digest: [23-3-2024]

Hello community member,

We know why you are here, but first have you ever imagined what the world's first AI PC would look like? Really, a computer that just operates on artificial intelligence? Can you imagine it? Well, Microsoft said "hold my cup, we've got you covered". Speaking of which, it is the weekend again, and you know it, we have got you covered as well on all the hot takes that went down in the AI ecosystem this week - so, grab a seat, sit back, and indulge. It's time to savor the excitement of what the AI world has served up this week!

Here's your curated dose of the most significant events in the AI ecosystem this week:

  1. Elon Musk open sources Grok’s LLM code and weights.

  2. DeepMind and Liverpool FC have collaborated to introduce TacticAI

  3. Microsoft Unveils the World First AI PC

  4. OpenAI GPT Store Faces Unethical Quandaries

Elon Musk's xAI has released Grok-1's AI model code and weights, challenging OpenAI in the process. The move aims to democratize access to advanced LLM tech for researchers and developers worldwide. Despite being a thorn in OpenAI's side, Grok-1 isn't immediately suitable for conversational AI applications due to lack of fine-tuning and hefty computational requirements. However, the AI community anticipates efforts to optimize Grok-1 through quantization. One significant aspect is Grok-1's use of the Apache 2.0 license, offering broad freedom for use, modification, and distribution, making it attractive for commercial purposes. xAI's release aligns with Musk's vision for open AI and sets the stage for further developments in the AI community, challenging established players like OpenAI and Anthropic.

DeepMind and Liverpool FC have teamed up to introduce TacticAI, an AI system that's all set to change the game, especially when it comes to corner kicks. Remember those thrilling moments like Origi's epic goal in the 2019 UEFA Champions League semi-finals? Well, TacticAI aims to bring more of that to the field by combining human intuition with AI intelligence. Through geometric deep learning, TacticAI can predict corner outcomes, analyze tactics, and even suggest strategic tweaks. And guess what? According to a study in Nature Communications, TacticAI's predictions are on point, outperforming traditional methods. With TacticAI's F1 score of 0.71 for shot prediction and 0.782 for receiver prediction, Liverpool FC is gearing up for some game-changing moves. So, despite managerial changes, Liverpool fans have something exciting to look forward to on the field!

Microsoft has introduced AI-powered Surface devices, including the Surface Pro 10 and Surface Laptop 6, tailored for business use. These PCs boast extended battery life, anti-reflective displays, and a new Copilot key. Equipped with the latest Intel Core Ultra processors and Neural Processing Units (NPUs), they promise enhanced AI experiences while reducing strain on the CPU and GPU. The Surface Pro 10 offers options like Core Ultra 5 135U or Core Ultra 7 165U processors, upgradable RAM up to 64GB, and a 256GB Gen4 SSD. The Surface Laptop 6 features Core Ultra 5 135H or Core Ultra 7 165H processors, expandable RAM up to 64GB, and up to 1TB storage. Priced at $1,199, these devices include USB-C Thunderbolt 4 ports and emphasize Copilot functionality for seamless business operations.

OpenAI's CEO, Sam Altman, introduced GPTs, custom chatbots powered by OpenAI's AI models at their first developer conference. Basically, they are chatbots that can do a bunch of things like programming help, learning about different topics, and even giving workout tips. But here's the twist, Researchers found some loopholes in the GPT Store, which is like OpenAI's marketplace for these GPTs. It turns out there are some GPTs in there that might be crossing copyright lines, promoting cheating in academics, pretending to be famous people, and trying to trick OpenAI's security measures. Even though developers have to get their profiles verified and their GPTs reviewed before they go live, it seems like the store might be facing issues soon with all these popping up. It's like a reminder that as cool as AI can be, there are also important things like ethics and rules that need to be kept in check.
