A group of eight US newspapers has filed a lawsuit against OpenAI and Microsoft, accusing them of using millions of copyrighted news articles without permission to train their AI chatbots. The lawsuit, filed in a New York federal court, involves newspapers like the New York Daily News, Chicago Tribune, and Denver Post, among others. Frank Pine, the executive editor for MediaNews Group and Tribune Publishing, expressed concern over Big Tech companies using their work without compensation. Microsoft and OpenAI have not yet commented on the matter. This legal action follows a similar lawsuit by the New York Times, highlighting the ongoing debate over the use of copyrighted material in AI development.

In a video from a Q&A at Stanford University, Sam Altman criticizes ChatGPT and GPT-4, calling them less than impressive and even implying GPT-4 as "the dumbest model. Altman emphasizes the importance of continuous improvement and early deployment in AI development, despite potential high costs. This perspective has sparked discussions online, especially on platforms like X (formerly Twitter). Altman's focus seems to be on pushing boundaries, as evidenced by OpenAI's recent release of Sora, an AI model that converts text into high-quality video content. Sora's potential to democratize content creation and its debut music video for Washed Out signal a new era in AI-driven multimedia production, potentially impacting industries like Hollywood.

Rabbit’s R1 AI gadget, launched recently, has sparked curiosity, particularly questioning why it’s not merely an app. As reported by Android Authority, Mishaal Rahman managed to run Rabbit’s launcher APK on a Google Pixel 6A, essentially using the app as if it were on the R1 device. However, Rahman noted that while the app functions on a midrange phone, it may lack certain features due to system-level permissions. Rabbit’s CEO, Jesse Lyu, emphasized that R1 is distinct, running on cloud-based software and bespoke firmware modifications, making third-party clients incompatible. Despite its initial challenges, including battery drain, Rabbit has issued a software update to address some issues. However, the consensus seems to suggest that the R1's functionalities may not justify its hardware existence when similar capabilities could have been delivered through an app on smartphones.
